If you're looking for a place to whine and complain about how terrible you feel, keep looking. This is not the group for you.
We are here for the young at heart trying to live with the everyday struggles of Fibromyalgia. We will be meeting regularly for social outings and to exchange information on treatments, coping techniques, and what each of us does just to get through each day. No strenuous hikes, no weepy teary pity parties, no waiting for months for an event to get started, and no dues or charges to attend anything.
You can also visit us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/120979651274630/
We are a Fibromyalgia Support Group, located in Tucson, AZ. We welcome anyone with Fibromyalgia who lives in Marana, Oro Valley, Catalina, Vail, Green Valley, etc. Some of our events are geared more toward spouse/family involvement while others are not. We do not charge dues or have any requirements involving frequency of participation. We offer patient and community education through our Facebook page and website.
We typically rotate our meeting places since so many of our members live in different parts of town; this way, nobody has to always drive 45 minutes or more! If you are not comfortable with driving to the east or NW side of town, there is no requirement that you attend. We have 1-2 events per month, so there is always another opportunity to get involved.
Our group is a little different from the “typical” support group. Our goal is to provide Fibro-friendly opportunities for socializing and enjoyment, thus strengthening one’s support network and building new friendships. We offer three ways to provide you support in coping with Fibromyalgia while meeting our group goals of strengthening support networks and providing you with information about this strange illness.
1. Share and Support Saturdays. These meetings are designed for Fibro patients to discuss all things Fibro. These meetings are for patients only. “Share and Support Saturdays” are currently scheduled for the first Saturday of every other month at 1pm. Some months we have guest speakers on a specific topic and other months, we open the floor to anyone who has something they need to discuss with others, like a question about odd symptoms or a new medication.
2. Social Support. Our social events are open to friends and family (there is no requirement to bring someone, just be aware that there may be other members' friends and family in attendance). These are scheduled once per month at various times and locations around town. In the last few months, we’ve enjoyed Couples’ Bowling, a pre- Cinco de Mayo Happy Hour at Sir Veza’s Taco Garage, Potluck Easter Party, visited the Tucson Museum of Art to see the “Frida Kahlo” photography exhibit, picnics at Brandi Fenton Park and Madera Canyon, and lunch at various restaurants around town. We have also attended free Tai Chi, Yoga, and Qi Gong classes around town.
3. Online Support. Join us in discussions online about all things Fibro. We have an active Facebook group and a new online forum on our website, as well as a chat room. You will need to create a user name and password to use our forum (message boards) to keep the forum private (not public).
If you would like to join our email list, please contact Jess at info@azfibro.com, or 329-8449 (h/w) or 979-6097 (cell). Reminders for events are emailed out several days before an event.
