2014 Leaders Against Pain Training Conference Resounding Success

SwansonMelissaLeader Against Pain in the Spotlight:  Melissa Swanson

Meet Melissa Swanson from Wisconsin, one of the 30 new members of the NFMCPA Leaders Against Pain Network. She is a full time working, married mom who was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and (in her words) 13 of its evil sidekicks.  She continues to research and connect with other people who have fibromyalgia to learn as much as she can to help deal with the daily struggles of her syndromes/diseases.  Melissa created a Facebook fibromyalgia page, a support group and a blog.  She believes that through education, positive affirmation and a great support team she can continue being a Fibro Warrior ~ Living Life.

Melissa chronicled her experiences while attending the October 2014 NFMCPA Leaders Against Pain Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, which she named:

My Advocate Adventure ~ Part I

I began looking into the Leaders Against Pain program offered by the National Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain Association about a year ago.  I read the purpose of the program, and I thought, "Someday I want that to be me."  I was surprised to receive an email a few weeks ago giving me the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to attend this year's Leaders Against Pain Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.

“This program is intended for newcomers as well as veterans to patient advocacy.  It teaches skills for advocating on behalf of millions of people for faster diagnosis, better treatments, more research funding and ultimately a cure for these conditions” ~ Leaders Against Pain
