 New Funding Cycle Dates and Names
PCORI is moving from three funding application cycles per year to four as part of our effort to increase the amount of research support we award each year. As a result, our cycles will have new deadline names. The December 2013 cycle is now called Winter 2014 and the application due date is changing from Monday, Dec. 16 to Tuesday, Jan. 21. The Spring 2014 cycle will open on Wednesday, Feb. 5, with required letters of intent due Friday, Mar. 7, and applications due Tuesday, May 6. Applications Sought to Build Uterine Fibroids Registry for Treatment Research
The federal government shutdown has not affected the Monday, Dec. 16 due date for funding applications for our project to improve treatment for uterine fibroids, a joint effort with the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). We will commit up to $20 million over five years to an awardee to develop a large registry of women treated for uterine fibroids and conduct comparative studies of therapies using registry data. AHRQ is administering the application process through aRequest for Applications (RFA). Letters of intent, though not required, may be submitted to AHRQ by Friday, Nov. 15.
Albuquerque Regional Engagement Workshop Registration Closing Soon
The registration deadline is fast approaching for our next regional engagement workshop, in Albuquerque, NM, Nov. 6-8. The Power of Partnership in Research: Applying Patient-Centered Outcomes Research in Racial and Ethnic Minority Communities invites patients and other healthcare stakeholders to share their insights and experiences and to learn more about our funding and engagement opportunities. Webinar to Explore New "Pipeline to Proposal" Awards
Individuals and groups in the 13 western states where we have launched a pilot of our new Pipeline to Proposal Awards can learn more about the program during a one-hour webinar from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. ET Wednesday, Nov. 13. Tier I Pipeline awards of up to $15,000 each will be available through this program and focus on community building to support patient-centered outcomes research. This webinar will discuss the type of projects we're looking to fund and how to apply.
Building a Patient-Centered Research Community Through PCORI Ambassadors
To capitalize on patients' and other stakeholders' enthusiasm about patient-centered outcomes research, we've developed the PCORI Ambassador Program. Ambassadors will be informed volunteers who will engage with other individuals and organizations to help create a diverse community trained to participate in research and share results. Ambassadors are being recruited first from among those who have participated in one or more PCORI activities. We plan to expand the program in 2014.
