CARE & Make Fibromyalgia Visible 2014

CARE & Make Fibromyalgia Visible – Get Involved!

National Fibromyalgia Awareness Day 2014

The National Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain Association (NFMCPA) is gearing up for this year’s national May 12 Fibromyalgia Awareness Day activities. The 2013-14 campaign to “CARE” & Make Fibromyalgia Visible encourages people outside of the fibromyalgia (FM) community to help support and spread awareness of FM and its life-altering effects.

“CARE” & Make Fibromyalgia Visible
C - Contribute, time, resources and funding
A - Advocate, for quicker diagnosis and better access to care and treatments
R – Research, encourage more funding and scientific interest
E – Educate, people with FM, caregivers, government agencies and medical professionals

2014 activities are planned around the Contribute, Advocate, Research and Educate topics with free materials created by the NFMCPA for people with FM, Support Group Leaders, and other advocates to create awareness and education about FM for their local communities, government agencies, and medical professionals. Awareness program information is available on the organization’s website, including accessibility to materials created to help volunteers hold local, national and international events.

Who knows a community’s events better than a person who lives there? With this in mind, many Awareness Day venues encourage bringing other local events into FM promotional opportunities. Walks can be coordinated with area fitness centers to enhance membership interest; or community picnics might be shared with church, synagogue, and other religious organizations’ summer activities, allowing entire congregations to learn about FM. Table top exhibits at shopping malls and local health fairs are opportunities to participate locally to share FM information and awareness. Incorporate local and state government educational opportunities by utilizing proclamations and legislative visits. These suggestions are meant to stimulate thoughts about each person’s knowledge of their local, popular, event venues and how fibromyalgia awareness might be integrated into those activities. As a reminder even though this program has been created for Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, it can be used throughout the year, helping to raise fibromyalgia education and interest on an ongoing basis.
