Event Description: Gary Kaplan, DO, will discuss depression and pain from a neurophysiologic perspective, focusing on: * Why people stay in pain -- in spite of treatment -- and * How new concepts about pain and depression being mediated by the central nervous system will influence the treatment of chronic pain Central Pain Sensitization Syndrome” is a new concept that enables us to understand fibromyalgia, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and possibly other chronic pain conditions, as mediated by the central nervous system. Chronic pain conditions commonly co-occur with psychiatric conditions, and when they do, they result in extraordinarily high rates of treatment failure. A new, more comprehensive treatment strategy is required
